With endless pristine beaches, it is famous for having the longest uninterrupted sandy beach on South Africa’s coast. The pristine Sixteen Mile Beach separates Yzerfontein from the West Coast National Park in the north. There are dunes 60ms high.
Fishing
When the snoek are running, the tiny harbour becomes a hive of activity and it is on this headland that most of the fishing takes place. Deep gullies and rocky points punctuate the headland to the south of the harbour and produce good catches of galjoen in winter and hottentot throughout the year.
Wine Tasting
Four wineries along the short 27km drive to Darling are the Cloof, Darling Cellars, Groote Post and Ormonde Vineyards, open Monday to Saturday. The historic Groote Post is also open on Sundays and has a restaurant.
Surfing

Yzerfontein in Western Cape is an exposed beach and reef break that has quite reliable surf and can work at any time of the year. Offshore winds blow from the east. Still reasonable in light onshore winds Clean groundswells prevail and the ideal swell direction is from the west southwest. The beach breaks offer lefts and rights together with both left and right hand reef breaks offshore.. When it’s working here, it can get crowded. Watch out for rocks.

Hiking Trails
The Schaapeiland Hiking Trail skirts the edge of the village of Yzerfontein. Approximately two kilometres long, it starts from the Main Beach – or Sixteen Mile Beach as it is also known – and then runs in a southerly direction, that is, towards the harbour. It is an easy walk for most people. You will have the widest choice of hiking/backpacking in Yzerfontein
